  • About driving around at 40 listening to hip hop ... it depends.

I've been a hip hop head for as long as I can remember, so I definitely plan to.  I've become more selective of what I listen to as I've gotten older, and I'm sure in the next 10 years when I turn 40 I'll be even more picky.  Even now I have trouble listening to the unedited versions of early Death Row songs, something I never through would happen.

I find myself rotating the same albums around and I think I'll rock them until I'm an old fart - Nas's Illmatic, Cannibal Ox's The Cold Vein, Blackalicious' Nia, Kanye's Graduation, Mos Def's Black on Both Sides, Tribe's Midnight Marauders, Tribe's Low End Theory, Main Source's Breaking Atoms, Rakim's The Book of Life, Jay-Z's Reasonable Doubt, Jay-Z's Blueprint every Roots album ... I'm definitely forgetting some.  I know most of them are mid 90s but hey, that's when I feel like the art hit its stride.

  • I agree there are some songs that i will always love to bop my head to and i hope those song will be timeless and remembered as classics. I still get goose bumps every time i hear the base line to Follow the leader Eric B and Rakim, i just can't help that shit.

Yeah my rotation is pretty familiar and anything new i add to the rotation I'm pretty snobby about. Once your a Hip Hop head i think that it stays with you for life as well. Maybe it's a matter of weeding through the new mainstream stuff to find the diamonds in the rough.

Most of the ablums you mentioned are in my rotationm that's bad ass.
Mos Def and Talib Kwali are up in my top ten.
I haven't heard Cannibal Ox's The Cold Vein... gonna track it down.

  • Cannibal Ox is an acquired taste, definitely some heavy underground New York type stuff.  If you've ever heard El-P of Company Flow, he did all the beats so it has a very electronic vibe to it.

  • this breakdown is dope, Cho!!!

My fav part is your story bout telling your parents about your pregnancy.  Mom rolling on the floor about the breakup then telling them moments prior to departure on an international flight.  Hahaha!  That is a classic move that should be employeed for all types of situations. Love it! Thanks for the comedy.  You all are the best!
