Eliss is from Atlanta, Georgia and Joseph is from (Metro) Detroit, Michigan…by the way of Italy.

Eliss (27), Joseph (32)

How you met?
To make a long story short, Joseph was a reader of a previous blog of mine, and I had no idea. One day, he sent me an email introducing himself, and I thought it was someone playing a joke on me. I purposely didn’t respond for a month (as I questioned some of my friends who I thought was behind the joke), and finally I responded. We chatted back and forth for a while and decided to meet. The rest is history in the making.

How long you have been together?
16 months

What has been the response from families or friends in regards to dating outside your race?
From my side, it’s been nothing but acceptance. Joseph’s extended family and siblings have shown nothing but support, but it’s been a roller coaster ride with his parents. They’ve finally came around to accepting it.

What have you learn from one another or the best advice you have ever received from your partner?
Joseph: “She has taught me to be a good listener and to understand feelings rather than being very abstract. She has taught me how to express myself.”
Eliss: “From Joseph, I’ve learned not to put so much pressure on myself. I’ve learned to relax and understand how to be a woman and allow him to be the man that he needs to be for me.”
